College Principal Speaking in Australia
Written by Administrator
Monday, 23 March 2009 16:12

King's Principal Dr Calvin Smith will be speaking across Australia again this July. The main feature of his itinerary is a joint conference on biblical interpretation with Revd Jacob Prasch, visiting lecturer at King's and Director of Moriel Ministries. The conference, which runs from 10th - 12th July at the Belgrave Heights Conference Centre, near Melbourne, is entitled The Word of God for the People of God. Full details (including accommodation options) and a booking form can be found in the conference brochure. During the conference Dr Smith's new edited book The Jews, Modern Israel and the New Supercessionism: Resources for Christians will be available.

Please consider attending what promises to be an exciting and challenging conference aimed specifically at lay Christians seeking to move to the next stage of serious, in-depth Bible study. It would also be good to see some of King's various Australian students come to the conference. Indeed, if sufficient students make plans to attend we will be holding several additional sessions aimed specifically at them and their studies. Therefore, if you are a KEDS student please do email the college once you have booked your place, allowing us to make our arrangements accordingly.

As last year, after the conference dr Smith will be speaking at various other churches and venues in Australia. For details of his itinerary please contact Moriel Australia administrator and conference organiser Marg Godwin. Her contact details can be found on the above conference brochure.

New Book on Supercessionism Released Today
Written by Administrator
Friday, 08 May 2009 15:17

A new book edited by King's Principal Calvin L. Smith, entitled The Jews, Modern Israel and the New Supercessionism: Resources for Christians is published today. It is aimed at lay Christians, church leaders and Bible college students and explores the relationship between the Jews, the Church and Israel, together with the rise of the new supercessionism within Evangelicalism today and how to respond to it both biblically and theologically.

Full details of the book, which has been endorsed by leading Evangelical scholars such as Walter Kaiser, and Darrell Bock, can be found on the book's own website,
www.thechurchandisrael.com, including a contents page, endorsements in support of the book, and biographical notes for each of the contributors. This website also includes an interview with the book's editor (also available on this site's Talks With Scholars page) who provides additional details about the book's contents and discusses its relevance in light of what is happening in the Church and how Christian responses to Israel is symptomatic of a wider ideological conflict taking place within Evangelicalism at the present time.

The Jews, Modern Israel and the New Supercessionism is currently available through Amazon and the King's eShop (see menu on the right of this page). Provided you cite the book's ISBN it can also be ordered through local and chain bookshops.
