Next British Museum Trip (January 2009) PDF Print E-mail

The next tour of the British Museum will take place on Saturday 24th January 2009, led by King's Evangelical Divinity School lecturer Julian Spriggs. We would like to encourage all students and friends of the college to consider joining this exciting tour. Please think about bringing a group from your church. The tour will be of interest to anyone who wants to understand the history of the Old Testament better. Scroll down for some photos from the museum.

In the U.K. we are very privileged to have easy access to this amazing collection of archaeological artifacts, many of which have a direct connection to important people or events of the Old Testament. Seeing and learning about these artifacts helps us see that the Bible really is rooted in history. Our faith is strengthened as we see that God acted in history, and that the archaeological evidence consistently supports the accounts recorded in the Bible.

On the tour we will see four thousand year old artifacts from Babylonia from the time of Abraham, from ancient Egypt at the time of the Exodus, and Israel at the time of Joshua and the Judges. We will also see many wall carvings showing the Assyrians, who were used by God to judge the northern kingdom of Israel. There are also objects from Babylon at the time of Daniel and King Nebuchadnezzar; as well as from the Persian Empire contemporary with Esther and Nehemiah. For King's students, there is an option to write an assignment about artifacts seen on the tour for Module 102: Old Testament Survey. Here are some comments from people who joined earlier tours:

“History begins to live, when you see those remains”

"I had the chance to see so many items, contemporary witnesses of the prophets and kings of Israel, that it is really hard to decide which ones impressed me most."

“It brought parts of the Old Testament alive ...”

If you would like to join the tour, you can book online by by visiting the college shop (Cost isĀ 12 GBP). But hurry as places are stricly limited..
